More 'Elm Street' casting news

The Hollywood Reporter confirms that both Rooney Mara and Thomas Dekker (From Within, Laid to Rest, "The Sarah Connor Chronicles") will be starring in New Line's re-imagined A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, being directed by Samuel Bayer and produced by Platinum Dunes. They also break the news that Twilight star Kellan Lutz will join the quickly growing cast as "Dean", the popular school jock. Dekker will play "Jesse", the alpha male trying to get back together with his girlfriend. Mara plays Nancy Thompson, the girl who can't wait to leave town after graduation. Those young dreams will prove to be dust as the duo join Kyle Gallner (Quentin), in the role played by Johnny Depp in the 1984 pic, as fodder for slasher Freddy Krueger, being played by Jackie Earle Haley. "Nightmare" is slated to begin shooting May 5 in Chicago. Lutz played Emmett Cullen in "Twilight," a role he is reprising for the sequel, "New Moon," which is shooting in Vancouver. His part in "Nightmare" would not be scheduled until later in the shoot. The actor, repped by Innovative, also appeared in "90120" and "Generation Kill." Dekker, repped by ICM and the Schiff Co., is coming off starring on Fox's "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles." He next appears on the big screen in New Line's "My Sister's Keeper" with Cameron Diaz and Abigail Breslin. Gersh-repped Mara, the sister of Kate Mara, has "The Winning Season" with Sam Rockwell and "Youth in Revolt" with Michael Cera coming out this year.A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET is coming in theaters April 16, 2010.

Rob Zombie's Halloween 2 a wrap

With principal photography on Rob Zombie's H2: HALLOWEEN 2 set to wrap-up this week, more info on the film is starting to surface. Rumor has it that we may see a trailer very soon, and Zombie himself checked in on MySpace again with another update. Over at Dread Central, news from the set of Rob Zombie's HALLOWEEN II indicates that everyone's favorite babysitter killer, the Shape, will in fact be maskless for up to 70% of the new movie. Their source spoke with several key members of the film's production crew including special effects genius, Wayne Toth, producer Andy Gould, and even Malek Akkad himself--who all confirmed that Michael Myers will in fact be going maskless for "a great portion" of the sequel. The notion that his version of Myers being vastly different from Carpenter's rendition should not be that big of a surprise to fans.

The NEW Freddy has been cast

The NEW Freddy has been cast for New Line/Platinum Dunes reboot of A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, which begins to lens soon. Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen) has been cast to play Freddy Kreguer, of course historically played by Robert Englund. Also, Kyle Gallner (The Haunting In Connecticut) has also been cast. This evening Platinum Dunes producer Brad Fuller updated his official blog responding directly to the fans regarding the casting choices. As you all now know, Haley is set to be your brand new Freddy Krueger, replacing the infamous Robert Englund as the child killer from Springwood. Gallner will play Quentin, the "Johnny Depp" character (who is also a podcast host) that's pairing up with Nancy to solve the mystery of the razor-glove wearing dream demon.
